Monomial : A single term expression. It may be a number, a variable, or a product of numbers and variables with whole number exponents.

Polynomial : Is a monomial, or a sum or difference of monomials.

Classifying Polynomials by Degree
Polynomials classified by their largest exponent is known as classifying by degree.
Classifying Polynomials by Terms
Polynomials may be classified by the number
of terms they have. Terms are separated by
addition or subtraction operations.
Polynomial Standard Form
Polynomials of a single variable are typically written with exponents in descending order. Once a polynomial is in standard form the first coefficient of the first term is called “The Leading Coefficient”.
